Readers share their thoughts:
One of my fondest memories when my daughters were young, were the weekly visits to our local library. They would comb the shelves for books to ‘read’ as I would look for books to read to them. When they were too young to read on their own, I would look for books with eye-catching illustrations while telling a story I could read with enthusiasm. Ogilvy, The Pig Who Whistled, is one of those books I know my girls would have loved when they were little.
Stefano’s whimsical illustrations are terrific, and the story tells an important message: there’s nothing better than being you, so be the best you, you can be. As author, Pam weaves a wonderful cast of characters that I think we can all relate to. There’s Merribelle, the kind of steadfast friend we all wish for; Mr. Slybeaks the Crow who is the naughty in all of us; Ol’ Red the Robin who knows just how to give us that little push to stand on our own two feet; and many more, all set in the wonderful Farmer Bob’s Barnyard. I can’t wait for the next book in the Ogilvy series. These books will delight the child in all of us!

Ogilvy, the Pig Who Whistled is a delightful reminder that we all have talents and that we should use them to the fullest! Ogilvy, and his friends, are enjoyable characters that children and adults can easily recognize and relate to. I appreciate the empowering message for children; that we all have talents and that we should recognize and trust in them. It is delivered beautifully through its illustrations, and eloquently in the story told. Thank you, Ogilvy!

Ogilvy is a pig that appeals to all of us. Almost everyone I know has some sort of issue with self
esteem or has, at one time or another, envied someone else’s looks, talent or
intellect. Ogilvy shows us that, not only do we each have something
uniquely valuable to offer but, even more important, that it’s in friendship we
find true happiness.

A touching, charming story of self-discovery as told through a group of barnyard friends who help Ogilvy the Pig learn something new while also showing him how to appreciate his own true talents. Ogilvy: The Pig Who Whistled is a heartwarming and fun way to share and reinforce messages of friendship, gratitude, generosity and self-worth with young children who will doubtlessly want to revisit Ogilvy over and over.

I love Ogilvy and his message…even Sly Beaks the Crow has a lesson worth teaching our young about being our best. As a mother who read to my son, and a grandmother now reading to my grandson, nothing can be more treasured than the time one spends with a young child and a beloved book.
